八百屋お七の放火事件と、火あぶりの処刑は、天和三年（1683）の実話。＜ 自宅を焼け出されて、避難し逗留した寺の寺小姓に恋をしたお七は、再建された自宅に戻されても、悶々と恋を忘れられず、遂に放火事件を起こす。火事になれば、また寺小姓に逢えると思った＞という井原西鶴や鶴屋南北による芝居のすじがきへの疑問から実はお七は冤罪ではなかったかをテーマにジェームス三木が挑戦したドラマ主演の前田敦子が本格的に時代劇にトライした。撮影は操上和美さん
